About me

Emma Shevah

Hello and welcome.

I’m Emma, but you already knew that.

I’m a feminist, anarchist and free-thinker, which is why I wrote this: https://www.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/2015/sep/09/pippi-longstocking-a-feminist-an-optimist-and-a-free-thinker

I’m also a writer, author, literacy lead, English teacher, parent, well-travelled traveller, seeker, thinker, coffee drinker, and word lover.

Some of the words I like are:

Sequoia. Propinquity. Mellifluous. Profound.

The list is not exhaustive.

Some of the places I like are:

Parvati Valley. Anghor Wat. Jerusalem. The Southbank. Colorado. Koh Phangan. Rajasthan.

The list is not exhaustive.

I live in Sussex, teach in London, and spend too much time and money on trains. I particularly dislike Thameslink because the seat backs are like ironing boards and they ignore the needs of laptop users and people with knees. Southern Rail aren’t much better. The Gatwick Express has too many announcements in multiple languages. I know them all by heart.

Some things about me have changed as I’ve traversed through the path of life. I like greenery more than I used to. I don’t party like a wound up wind-up toy any more. I’m usually too busy to create the calm I increasingly need. I’m aware of the irony of this.

I write in long sentences sometimes.

This is not one of those times.

      Hi Faith,

I wrote it for lots of reasons. Mainly because I liked the relationship between Amber and Bella, but also because I wanted to write about being mixed race, about how it feels when your father leaves home and about starting a new school. Hope that answers your question!

      Love Emma xx

    Hi Emma,

I hope you don’t mind that I’m contacting you. I have just finished reading “What Lexie Did”. What a fantastic, emotional, funny, utterly brilliant book to read. I borrowed the book from the local library to read to my young daughter, but I couldn’t put it down. It reminded me of my younger years growing up, and I wished I’d been part of such a strong close nit family (even if there are testing times). I’ll definitely purchase this so my daughter can read it for herself, when she’s able to.
    Thank you again!
